God is Eternal (An Infinite Attribute of God’s Nature)

To Study and Ponder:

• God is infinite. He has no beginning and no end. He has always lived and he will always live. In Gen.1:1 when “the beginning” begins God is already present. He’s always been present. This is extraordinary! There is no one else like him. (Read full meditation by David Joel Hamilton.)

• God has placed something in the heart of man, part of His image, that is a desire to live and not to die, to live eternally. In past ages men crossed oceans to find “the fountain of youth”, contemporary movies and novels play with time travel and ‘forever’ life.

• Because God is eternal, He did not need to be created. In fact, because He is eternal, God could not have been created, since it is not possible to create something that already exists. ..before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God. Psalm 90:2b (NLT) Winkey Pratney calls this one of the “absolutes of wonder”.

• God is called “Eternal God”, “Rock eternal” and “Everlasting God” throughout the Bible

• ... there he[Abraham] worshiped the Lord, the Eternal God.. Genesis 21:33b

• Revelation came ...by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him. Romans 16:26b (NIV)

• Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. Isaiah 26:4

• Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. Isaiah 40:28 (Psalm 90:1-2, Nehemiah 9:5)

• Things about God that are FOREVER:--

• His words/law Ps.119:160b ... all your just regulations will stand forever. (also Ps 119:89)

• His love, faithfulness - Ps.117:2; Ps.118; Ps.136; Ps.146:6.

• His righteousness & power - Ps.111:3; Ro.1:20

• His name - Ps.135:13 Your name, O Lord, endures forever; your fame, O Lord, is known to every generation.

• His ways & plans - Habakkuk 3:6, Ps 33:11

• For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever ... Ps.48:14

• He is the Eternal King of an eternal kingdom:- Je 10:10, Daniel 4:3,34, 1 Tim 1:17

• Jesus always has been and always will be:-

• Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began. John 17:5

• I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Rev.22:13

• Both OT prophets and New Testament writers make clear that Jesus rules an eternal kingdom

• Isaiah 9:6-7; Daniel 7:14

• Hebrews 1:8 But to the Son he says,“Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever, ...”

• 2Pe.1:11 God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

• The seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven: “The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.” Revelation 11:15

• As God’s children we are promised everlasting life with Him:-

• Matt.19:29, Luke 16:9,18:30, John 3:15-16,36, 4:14, 5:24, 6:27,10:28,12:25,17:2,3, Rom.5:21, Rom.6:22,23, 2 Corinthians 5:1, Galatians 6:8, 1 Tim 1:16, 6:12, Titus 1:2, 3:7, Heb 5:9 etc.

• Isaiah 60:19-20

• We are to fix our eyes on what is eternal:- 2 Corinthians 4:18

Lower Grades: The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. Deuteronomy 33:27a (NLT)

Upper Grades: The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.  Isaiah 57:15  (NLT)

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.  2 Corinthians 4:18  (NLT)

Extra Verses: No longer will you need the sun to shine by day, nor the moon to give its light by night, for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set; your moon will not go down. For the Lord will be your everlasting light. Your days of mourning will come to an end. Isaiah 60:19-20 (NLT)

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. John 12:24-25  (NLT)

How great are his signs, how powerful his wonders! His kingdom will last forever, his rule through all generations.. Daniel 4:3 (NLT)
